After a ten year absence while serving in the army, former Marine Edwin Christian inherits the Hotel St. George from his grandfather. Raised by his grandfather from an early age after the death of his father, Edwin practically grew up in the hotel, but he soon discovers that a lot has changed during the time he's been gone.Once the very epitome of a grand hotel, the St. George now looks worn and is struggling to compete against the newer and better capitalized brand name players in her marketplace. Financially strained, the hotel is being bled dry by poor management, lack of reinvestment, a thoughtless social climbing sister who uses the hotel to fund lavish galas, and a brother who has burdened the formerly debt free enterprise with a mortgage that drains revenue off to benefit his own struggling construction business.Edwin must come to grips with the changes in the industry, the state of the hotel, as well as his family's and employees best interests as he attempts to find a way to save the hotel. The author draws upon his many years as a hotel industry executive to deliver a fast paced and fun glimpse into the real everyday operations of a major hotel in a way that enlightens, entertains, and educates the audience. Along the way we get involved with staff, learning their job functions, learn about management styles, and are captivated by the antics of guests. This is a delightful and informative book!
